What Fits My Toyota Tacoma?

January 18, 2022

The Toyota Tacoma is one of the most loved mid-sized trucks on the market despite it being overshadowed by some of the full-sized trucks like the F-150 and the Silverado. It's especially popular among the off-road and outdoor enthusiast communities, the Tacoma TRD Sport trim level specifically, because of its versatility, rugged looks, and off-road capabilities.

We're breaking down a couple of the most popular wheel, tire, and suspension setups for the 4th generation Toyota Tacoma (2016-presents) to help make the process of getting your truck ready to hit the road much easier.

Toyota Tacoma Recommended Fitment

The recommended fitment for a Toyota Tacoma is between these specs.

Toyota Tacoma Specs:

Bolt Pattern: 6x5.5" (6x139.7mm)

Diameter Range: 16" to 30"

Width Range: 7" to 12"

Offset Range: -54mm to 40mm

Leveling Kit Fitment

Running a leveling kit on a Tacoma is probably the most common route we see people taking, especially for any off-road or outdoor-focused Tacomas because they are a little more functional and put less stress on your truck's other suspension components.

Here's a breakdown of the common wheel and tire specs for those who want to ride on, or are currently riding on, a leveling kit.

Wheels That Fit With Leveling Kits

The typical wheel size that we see people running with leveling kits are between...

- 17x8.5"

- 17x9"

- 18x9"

Depending on the tire size you choose with one of these wheel sizes, you may need some minor trimming around the bumper, specifically the stock trim under the bumper, to avoid any rubbing from occurring while driving or turning.

This is a very common off-road setup because it's running a smaller wheel. That allows more room for meaty tire size. More tire = better grip for traveling outdoors.

Also, we understand you may not want to cut up your truck so just be mindful of the wheel size relative to the tire size. These are just the most common that we are seeing, and it may be a good place for you to start with your build if you're thinking about a leveling kit.

Tires That Fit With Leveling Kits

- For a 17x8" wheel, the most common tire sizes are 265/70, 275/70, and 285/70 | This setup may require some minor plastic trimming with a leveling kit

- For a 17x9" wheel, the most common tire sizes are 265/70 and 285/70 | This setup may require some minor plastic trimming with a leveling kit

- For a 18x9" wheel, the most common tire sizes are 275/70, 275/65, and 265/60 | This setup may require some minor plastic trimming with a leveling kit

*Disclaimer, your tire size will depend on the wheel size you go with and vice versa.

What Are The Best Leveling Kit Brands?

When it comes to picking out your leveling kit, there's a lot of options out there but a super popular company that we see drivers going with is ProRYDE.

ProRYDE Suspension is another budget friendly option for leveling kits. They are actually the first company to offer adjustable leveling kits which was groundbreaking for the industry and competitors at the time.

3-inch lift kit Fitment

If you're looking for a little more for your Tacoma build, the most popular option past a leveling kit is a 3-inch lift kit.

This is another great for an off-road setup as it will give you more ground clearance. Most people with the 3-inch lift kit will want a wider stance as well.

What Tires Fit With 3-inch Lift Kits

What's The Best 3-Inc Lift Kit?

Just like leveling kits, there are quite a few popular brands out there for lift kits. Rough Country Suspension is one of the most common companies to go with for a 3-inch lift kit as well as SuperLift. Both companies offer budget-friendly suspension options.

The other really popular brand for lift kits for the Tacoma is BDS suspension. BSD is one of the best names in the industry and has always provided customers with high build quality across all their lifts and suspension kits.
